Types of Meal Prep
There are lots of ways to meal prep! Which way is most conducive to your lifestyle? Let's find out.
- Prep all of your meals: This is what I do! I take about two hours on Sundays, the day that works best for me, to prepare my breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the week. It makes it super easy on Thursday night when I don't have the energy to cook or even decide what I want to eat. To keep it easy, I eat the same lunch for the whole week, and the same dinner for the whole week, and usually breakfast too, so I'm really only prepping 3 meals. I personally don't mind the repetitiveness and choose meals that I know I won't get tired of. If you're feeding a family or get bored of meals quickly, there might be a better option for you.
- Prep some of you meals: If you're someone who likes some flexibility, having some meals on hand will be helpful in a pinch or if you don't feel like cooking, but there are still opportunities for spontaneity, going out with friends, throwing a frozen pizza in the oven etc. Maybe you want to only make 4-5 dinners for the week and want to wing the breakfast and lunches. Or maybe you make a few lunches and a few dinners. How you do it is totally up to you!
- Prep your ingredients: Even something as small as cutting all of your vegetables you plan to use throughout the week will have your future self thanking your past self. When I have the time, I like to take about 20-30 minutes on Saturdays (the day before I meal prep) to get all my produce washed and prepared. Then it will be ready to go for you whenever you need it! Another easy thing is if you're having fried rice one night for dinner, make the rice the day before, for example. Maybe whip up that potato salad you plan to have two nights from now. Crock pot meals are another great way to meal prep. The same goes for freezer meals. In my opinion, this type of meal prep would work best for families.
